Food Allergies

“So I hear you’re not felling the greatest. Have you ever looked into food allergies?”

“Oh no, I’m not allergic to anything”

“Are you sure?”

Did you know that there is more than one type of allergy your body experiences?

There is the IgE food reaction, which most of us are familiar with. This is the anaphylactic reaction that can be quite serious and potentially kill you. It can occur within minutes of you eating and causes reactions such as: hives on your skin, swelling of your lips & tongue, difficulty breathing, and digestive issues (in the forms of nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramping, diarrhea, etc.)

But did you know that there are delayed hypersensitivity reactions also?

The most common of the delayed reactions is the IgG type. It can occur hours to days after ingestion of an offending food, making it hard to link the food with symptoms. You might have heard it referred to as a type of “Food Intolerance”

It may be linked to conditions such as:

  • IBS and Crohn’s Disease
  • Migraines
  • Mood/ADD
  • Weight Gain
  • Arthritis

It can also help to explain if you are experiencing:

Fatigue, weakness, skin rashes, eczema, psoriasis, itching, food induced bronchitis, abdominal pain, bloating, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, memory disturbances, disordered thinking/feeling, food related arthritis, pain, and swelling stiffness. Just to name a few.

It can show why you may feel bad with certain foods. Even though other tests show you aren’t “allergic” to anything, don’t have Celiac’s disease or are lactose intolerant.
